An original mid-century theatrical costume design in watercolour on card, depicting Beatrice Cenci, the protagonist of Percy Bysshe Shelley's tragedy The Cenci (Il Cenci).
Dating from the 1940s and hand-sourced in Sweden, the composition features expressive brushwork, elaborate costume detailing and a rich palette of crimson, ochre, olive green, pink and black, with handwritten annotations.
Presented behind glass in a slim vintage gilt frame with a generously proportioned cream mount.
Good overall vintage condition with age-related discolouration to the mount, consistent with its age.
